Things We Don't Need Anymore

In the 1960's I had a regular 8mm "film" projector and a super 8 "film" projector. The Super 8 was like the regular 8 mm except it had smaller sprocket holes to make the picture slightly wider.

Also I had a 8mm and super 8mm editor that also had splicers for both regular and super 8 film reels and it came with splicing tape.

Of course ,I had a slide projector and a movie regular 8mm and super 8mm movie projector and a movie screen.

And thanks to CDs and DVDs; Record players and VCRs and the like are out. I even had a demagnetizer to demagnetized my audio tape heads on reel to reel and audio cassette tape machines. VCRs didn't need to be demagnetize because of the high frequencies it used.VCRs actually didn't record pictures and sound it just recorded the TV signals.

Also unlike audio tape players and  VCRs; DVDS and CDs are digital so the copies are  just like the original.Analogue copies of tapes downgrade from being copied from copies from that copy then from a copy from that copy and then a copy of the copy of that copy of a copy copy etc.

I still use DVD's in data file format to backup my files I really want to keep ,but I mostly use thumb drives which are well about of the size of your thumb ,and it holds loads of memory also it is easy to copy one thumb drive to another (same capacity or better) by going to "edit" ,"Select all", "copy" go to your blank thumb drive and click "paste" then go watch tv or take a nap etc.,until your computer is finish transferring.I use both dvds and usbs for backup just in case.Backing up on DVDs only, you may have to keep inserting disks one after another until it's done, not so with USB thumb drives with matching capacities  just a long wait. :)

IMPORTANT: On computer hard drives as well as thumb drives: Only filled them up to 75% and leave them 25%  disk space free ,so the drives will still work properly.

Another thing we don't need are phonebooks. All listed numbers are on the internet, especially on the Google site. To find all the theaters in Terre Haute, Indiana for example, type in the search box "Theaters 47808" without the quotes or if you do not know the zipcode look for it online or type "Theaters in Terre Haute, Indiana" again without the quotes.

So thanks to computers and the internet we no longer need typewriters, word processors, home movie screens, record players, video and audio cassette recorder/players, slide projectors, home movie projectors, phone books, paint and ink if we do artwork via photoshop , movie editors, tape and film splicers, audio tape head demagetizers, diary entry books (internet has blogs which people can use their real name or if they wish pseudonyms), newspapers, paper magazines, tv guides, cook books, how to books etc. The list may be endless.

One final note:  I was going to take all my old equipment out of a messy room I use for storage  and take a picture of each item then post each item on this blog, but that  is too much for this old man.

My messy room reminds me of my old teenage room except it was filled with wall to wall comic books. My parents had a hard time finding me in fact they had to use a backhoe to dig me out. Don't ask me how they got the backhoe in the house without damage.

Below is a video of my now messy closet the public domain music I use is titled "Rickety Roadster" from the royal free site http://www.purple-planet.com
