Why The Big Hole ? Compatible records

Did you ever wonder why 45 RPM 7 inch records have big holes in them? Well, let me tell you. 

Columbia and RCA  at the time were making their own versions of record players and they did not want them to be compatible with each other.

Columbia was the one that came out with the 12 inch 33 1/3 records that could play at least 15 minutes on each side. RCA came out with the 7 inch 45 RPM records that could play up to at least 3 minutes on each side.

When the patents ended they made record players that could play both formats as well for other speeds (16 2/3,  33 1/3,  45 and 78)

Also at the time they came out with stereo records which were not compatible on monoural record players the needle would not be able to play the inner grooves (left channel) .You would only be able to hear the right channel (outer grooves).

Then came  "Hit" records .Hit  recorded recent songs with sound alike artist and not the orginal artist. One "Hit"  45 record cost 35 cents compared to $1.00 or less for the orginal artist 45 RPM.

Hit did come out with LPs that were compatible with both mono and stereo record players ,but the records were 1 inch  thick. This made sure that both channels were being heard on mono record players (mixed channels) and still have separation with stereo record players.

This was at the time when the America state you're in took care of the copyrights, not like today were  you can create something and it is automatically copyrighted.

Is It Possible To Win $100 For $2.50? YES

Why play this way?  It is slightly easier to guess 5 out of 10 numbers (10 x 10 x 10 x 10)/(5 x 4 x 3 x 2) = odds 83 1/3 to 1

Rather than guessing 4 out of 10 numbers (10 x 10 x 10 x 10)/(4 x 3 x 2 x 1)=odds 416.67 to 1

As you can see your odds went down considerally just  by adding one extra digit. Base on 'boxed" combinations

Playing the Pick 3 game is it worth it?

Okay, People who can afford it play a dollar a day on pick 3 games..If the number is boxed your odds are 220 to 1, When playing number straight your odds are 1000 to 1.

But instead of playing pick 3 games every day just save a dollar a day  starting on January the 1st (about $30 + a month)   and at the end of the year you'll have $365 or $366 ( leap year.) at the end of the year.
 
At 50 cents a game a six way box (all digits are different) wins $40 or $80 on a three way box (two digits are the same). The winnings are doubled if you play a one dollar a game ($80,$160)

 Of course play your number if you feel lucky, but I would play it straight. Playing a number straight at 50 cents yields $250 if it is hit. A $500 win if you play a winning number at one dollar a game.

Another Hair Dryer Quit Working?

Okay, how many times do people throw away hair dryers because they tought they quit working ?

 Thing is that hair dryers have built-in thermostats, so when a hair dryer gets dangerously hot it shuts  itself off. This protects from both hair damage and short curcuits which may cause a fire.

So the next time your hair dryer seemingly quits

working..wait a while,let it cool off, and try it again before buying a new one.

Note: Popcorn poppers are the same way. They also have built-in thermostats. 

And for this kind of stuff anyway stick to brand names that are UL listed. Sure they cost more but it's worth it.

A Poor Man's Roses

Before I gradulated  in high school in 1968 I was required to write one last story for English class so I base it on Patti Page's song "A Poor Man Roses"

The ending I wrote originally had the lady marrying the poor man ,but it work out for the rich man as well, since I wrote that she had  twin sister. Happy ending right?

Well the way it turn out I had enough credits to gradulate anyway and they didn't need it ,so I change the ending of the story and please remember I was still  somewhat of a rebellious teenager.

My other ending would have people thinking she would  still marry the poor man ,but in this ending she married the rich man and told the poor man to face reality.

stanleyinparis Was Arrested Today At 2:00 am

Stanley Doe John  a.k.a stanleyinparis in U.S.A was arrested today when he was caught trying to steal diamonds from a diamond exchange store and for damaging the store's rooftop.

Stanley cut a hole in the store's rooftop so he can lower a remote control vacuum cleaner to the store's floor.  Once it was on the floor he activated his  remote control vacuum cleaner  so he can put its hose  back of the display cases and suck all the diamonds into a clean vacuum cleaner bag.

Stanley knew if he went inside the building himself there will be no way for him to get out, but lowering a vacuum cleaner via hooked wires solve that problem.

You Can Have My Queen Now Computer--lol

I like playing chess even tough I am not a chess master..I just like playing the game. On my computer chess game they have what is known as a kibitz that gives you a hint what your next move should be since I am playing against a computer I allow myself 3 kibitzs or hints per game. Rarely the computer gets me so going I do not want to use them.

Also I know if I just have one king and my opponent has a king and a castle I stay away from the edges of the board. There is a 50 move rule no checkmate after 50 moves it's a stalemate (draw)

Below is what can happen if  white decides to go to the edge of the board if your opponent just has a king and castle.Yes, it's a checkmate.I usually play white.

Other times the computer "forgets" to move his/hers pawns in front of his/her king.  The black king is in check with my white queen. black  cannot make any other move except to get himself/herself out of check.    

I will lose my queen because black has no option except for taking my white queen ,after that my white castle will take his/hers black castle and that'll make it checkmate .

The king cannot  get himself out of check because he is block by his own pawns nor can my opponent make any other move because he/she is in check.

It is black's move 

That'll teach my computer trying to capture my queen all over the board :P--lol

The computer keeps "thinking" and "thinking" until I  read the prompt "Computer lost because time is up". Most computer chess games last about 30 minutes. In this case the computer did not know what to do. How do I get out of this???---lol

Spyware Locks Internet Exploxer Homepage?

Did spyware change your homepage in Internet Exploxer then lock it ?  Here's what to do. First go to start, run and type in regedit and...

Wait a minute there is an easier way. First download Spyware blaster (it's free for personal home use).  Go to "tools" of spyware blaster and then "Misc. IE settings"  and simply uncheck the box where it says "disable IE home settings in the control panel."

Now you will be able to type in your own home page in Internet Exploxer. 

Above and to the right on your internet exploxer toolbar click on "tools" then internet options and type in your homepage then appy then okay. Or go to the site you want and look for "make this site my homepage. As you can see I have Google for my homepage which is  what I wanted.

Okay now what is Spyware blaster?  well, it won't get rid of spyware it simply makes them quit working, and will make new ones that enter quit working also , but you can uninstalled it when it is no longer needed and the changes you've made will stay that way.

My Gallbladder Operation.

On October 31 st  2012, I had my gallbladder removed.  It may seem spooky having it done on Halloween but I am not superstitious. 

Picture shows my scars, and I know how it feels to be stab.They did give me pain medicine.

This Pillow was giving to me at the hospital to use against my stomach everytime I had to get up.

I was also given a device where I had to inhale on it three times a hour or so, to keep my lungs from getting pneunomia.I could barely make it to the top mark but I can now tough.

I had to stay in the hospital over night and one of the nurses tought I was asleep but I was half awake. I saw the silhoutte of the nurse standing in the doorway checking on me,

           and yes it look spooky like I was in a horror movie--lol             I was able to go home the next day  and had two days of mild discomfort.

The liver makes bile (that digest fat) and stores it in the gallbladder until it needs it. However with the gallblabber gone and after a ERCP is done the bile just keeps pouring into the intestine.

          I am taking recently gallstone melting pills since there were still gallstones in my gallbladder ducts and they were not able to remove them.

Cheaper Electric rates scam

Okay this guy came at my door and said he was from some electic company that promises cheaper rates. Just because someone says something doesn't make it true

He also said you know the windmills we have around town that is how we can give you cheaper rates. Thing is we do not have windmills in town.

He ask me if I had a working phone and wanted me to make a few calls. He ask me if I want to join their company I told him I think about it and of course I did not make any calls, he seem way too much in a hurry for me to call.

Heck, this guy came at 6:30 pm at my door.

In short these people lie about their electric rates to get people hooked actually their electric rates are higher but once a person signs a contract it is hard to get off it and it'll be hard to prove that they were up to no good.

Just because I am old doesn't mean I'm stupid.
