Why Is Root Beer Called Root Beer?

Why is root beer called root beer?  It started with coal miners in a small town when they were hot and thristy they  would always drink alcoholic beer.

One day a Sunday school teacher wanted them to quit drinking beer* so he created a punch for them, but one follower pointed out they would not drink it if you called it punch ,so he renamed it root beer. The coal miners did like the taste of it but any thing would have tasted good if one is  sweaty and extremely thristy.

My mom use to make the best rhubard tea, . I even mixed it with
regular tea one day and my mom and rest of my family said it was good but to this day I do not remember the potions.Anyway back then even the root beer a person bought in stores  was made of rhubarb and cost 5 cents for a 6 ounce bottle.

When rhubarb was found out it may cause cancer along with other side effects people quit growing it ,and root beer companies no longer use it. Today they use artificial flavors  instead. Not only that the sugar was replaced with corn syrup like other soda pop products today.

If a person wants  to make natural soda pop ,they just can add soda water to 100% fruit juice. Mine is cranberry soda pop it is not sweet but tart.

* There are beers that are called beers today but with no alcohol; But still made with hops and other herbs which basically makes it a health food.  :)
